In 1976, the same year Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer, Happy Days was a hit on TV, and The Bad News Bears entertained audiences in theaters, Miles and Maggie Christy purchased 4010 Rettig Avenue, located across the street from Peralta Creek in Oakland's Upper Laurel neighborhood. In their charming 1926 bungalow, they raised three boys, who spent their childhoods having adventures in the creek across the street and playing on the calm, almost rural-feeling street. They carpooled to school with friends from the in-home daycare next door (at that time) and walked to the neighborhood playground. Fast forward to today, the house retains all the quaint charm of yesteryear but now features modern upgrades, including a newer roof, updated wiring with a sub panel, and renovated bathrooms. The sunny kitchen boasts quartz countertops, a new (2025) oversized sink with a gooseneck faucet, and verdant views framed by mostly dual-paned windows. With its elevated setting, mature trees, and expansive deck, this city property exudes the feel of a serene country retreat.
